Treatment intensification is recommended for patients with type 2 diabetes that are not meting glycemic targets, yet new research indicates that the median time to treatment intensification in patients who fail metformin monotherapy is over a year in the United States. The retrospective analysis identified 12,566 patients with T2DM and an HbA1c of ≥ 7% or at least two fasting blood glucose levels of ≥ 126 mg/dL while on metformin monotherapy for at least 6 months from a large U.S. electronic medical record database. Catheter occlusion most common complication associated with insulin pump catheters in pediatric patients

Catheter complications, most commonly occlusion, affect more than half of pediatric diabetes patients using insulin pump catheters, research indicates. An empirical questionnaire-based study collected data from patients at participating medical centers and outpatient clinics, about the frequency and type of complications experienced. An input mask was developed to retrieve data from questionnaires using diabetes documentation [...]

Catheter complications, most commonly occlusion, affect more than half of pediatric diabetes patients using insulin pump catheters, research indicates. An empirical questionnaire-based study collected data from patients at participating medical centers and outpatient clinics, about the frequency and type of complications experienced. An input mask was developed to retrieve data from questionnaires using diabetes documentation software DPV and the data was subsequently processed with SAS 9.2 software at the University of Ulm. Among the 432 participants, 63% experienced some form of complication following catheter use and a total of 739 incidents were reported, the majority of which were catheter occlusions , but also included blood in the catheter and bent cannulas .
