Education Justice Project takes higher education to hard timers
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — A program designed to give incarcerated people access to upper-division college courses is proving to provide unexpected benefits, not only to the inmates involved in the program but also to their families, the prison and the University of Illinois professors who volunteer to teach behind bars. The Education Justice Project, co-founded in 2006 by landscape architecture professor Rebecca Ginsburg, offers four upper-division courses, tutoring and a variety of workshops each semester at Danville Correctional Center, one of the Illinois Department of Corrections’ high-medium security facilities. Dads Belong at Baby Showers
Are you pregnant? Are your lady friends planning a big pink or blue bash in your honor? That is super nice, and you should thank those gals for making the effort. But why not slip your partner’s name into the mix when they ask you to provide an invite list? After all, he’s responsible for half of that baby’s DNA in there. Why can’t he celebrate? Or be celebrated?
In fact, including the menfolk into the baby celebration just might be the best way to start your family off on the right foot, moving forward instead of staying stuck in the dark ages.
If we really want dads to be involved, it’s a great idea to actually act like he played a role in this whole impregnation process.
Not So Mmm Mmm Good? Canned Soup and BPA
Patients may ask about a study suggesting that eating canned soup leads to spikes in urinary excretion of bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical found in the linings of many canned goods. The small randomized crossover trial was reported in a research letter in .
Some 75 adults ate 12 ounces of either fresh or canned soup for 5 days, and then crossed over to the other soup for another 5 days. Urine samples, collected on days 4 and 5 of each phase, were positive for BPA in 77% of participants after eating fresh soup and in 100% after eating canned soup.

Moms Freaked Over ‘Sexist’ Onesie Need to Chill
This is not the onesie in questionIt wouldn’t be another day in the grand old USA if we didn’t have some controversy over clothing made for little girls. The children’s clothing store Gymboree is the latest target of the mob of angry mamas. Moms Rising has a petition and they are fighting mad over a couple onesies.
The one that is obviously made for boy babies says, “Smart like Daddy” and the one for girls reads: “Pretty like Mommy.” It’s silly, it’s trite, and sure, it’s a little offensive, but I am not sure it’s petition worthy.

Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez put on a show in the main event of Bellator 58 Saturday night, as Chandler scored a fourth-frame submission victory over Alvarez to claim the companys lightweight championship.
Chandler nearly stopped the fight in the first, as he rocked the former title-holder with a series of heavy strikes and nearly finished things early on before Alvarez, regarded as one of the top 155 pounders in the world, recovered with a strong second round and dominated the third.
In the first championship round, Chandler mounted another attack that resulted in him taking the back of Alvarez to lock in a quick Rear-Naked Choke to score the win, the belt and improve to 9-0 in his career.
“I’ve got to say my face looks pretty darn good,” joked the bruised and battered Chandler in the post-fight interview inside the cage Saturday night. “Eddi Read more…

Many smokers deem to exclude their chances of obtaining standard health insurance to the minimum. This is quite true as the insurance companies consider them to be at higher risk with the statistics shown that smokers usually die at an average of 13 to 14 years earlier than non-smokers. Thus, the health care costs for smokers spiraled up to more than the smokers could afford.
Undeniably, health insurance providers charge higher premiums to smokers. In other words, price-conscious smokers may not obtain affordable health coverage as easy as the health insurance providers adjust the costs of premiums accordingly. H Read more…
