A two-year study of more than 3,000 obese people suggests that the obesity medication lorcaserin safely aids weight loss. The study found that nearly 50 percent of the patients given lorcaserin lost 5 percent of their body weight, compared with 20 percent of those who took a placebo. The drugmaker is currently seeking approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
