A List of High Adrenaline Sports
Introduction
I’m sure you must have heard of the “Fight or Flight Approach” in modern psychology. If you haven’t, then it merely talks about how one reacts when confronted with a threat.
In assessing this threat (or moment of stress!), one can either decide to run away or stand up for him or herself, and since this is found amongst both animals and humans, it is interesting to note the body’s reactions to such as events.
Not only does one experience accelerated heart rate and lung function as the body prepares to defend itself, the release of adrenalin (also known as epinephrin) is also an effort to assist the body when preparing itself to deal with the stress.
The Art of getting “high on life”
However, this is not the only way by which this “I’m-alive-and-loving-it” hormone is released as there are some people who aren’t subjected to any threatening situations but instead put themselves in these situations purposely so as to feel that ‘rush’, thanks to the body natural response to a situation of stress.
Yes, they’re called adrenalin-junkies and much like the idea of junkies, they are addicted to feeling this rush which they can generate by taking part in highly risky activities that are now known as extreme sports.
But there’s a point where this need to feel that rush can cross a point that it spells potential danger resulting in physical harm to the participant. If anything, living with people such as these is anything but boring… but knowing where to draw the line is often a good one – a life preserving one!
But taking part in some of these high-risk sports do have their benefits as they help one to stay in shape, and here are a list of high risk sports that get your adrenalin flowing but before that, here’s something to think about.
Are Extreme Sports healthy for you?
Common sense is the key here. If you know how far your body can go in grueling sports, then the possibility of injury is minimal but there’s a comes a point when every adrenalin junkie has to ask themselves: How much is too much?
And once that line is determined, then you’re probably ready to “dive in” and live it up…
List of Extreme Sports
1) Water sports such as coasteering, paragliding, windsurfing, kitesurfing, powerboating, white water rafting among several other variants are extreme sports with an element of danger involved that can range from drowning to injuring your head or even your limbs while you are in your “flights of fantasy”.
2) Bouldering (without ropes) and Mountain Climbing with ropes) are also an extreme form of sport that requires increased endurance levels from its participants, and can often lead to injury as well if one doesn’t take the necessary precautions. And nothing beats the view when you’re on top of the mountain.
3) And then there’s the proverbial skydiving and bungee jumping but it’s pretty obvious that the health benefits involved are none other than giving the participant a good scare.
In Closing
Even if you do get injured if you participate in high risk sports, since you are active, the body heals much faster… as opposed to sitting on your butt all day long and exemplifying obesity as we know it!
